Thigh lift is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin resulting in smoother skin and improved, proportioned contours of the thighs. Thigh lift surgery is not intended to remove excess fat but addresses loose skin associated with weight loss. For optimal results, patients should be at or near their goal weight.
Thigh lift surgery is performed under a general anesthesia and takes about 2 hours. Incisions are located in the groin area, extending downward toward the knee. The length of the incision may vary depending on individual patient's anatomy. The underlying tissue is reshaped and tightened and the excess skin removed resulting in a more proportionate and smoother thigh. You may be required to wear a compression garment for several weeks following surgery to minimize swelling and support tissues during the healing process. Incisional scars are permanent, but in most cases will fade and significantly improve over time. When surgery is complete, bruising and swelling will resolve over 3-4 weeks and thigh shape and contour will improve over 3 months. The scars will take a full year to blend and fade. You should plan on taking one to two weeks off from work to recover and avoid any strenuous lifting or exercise for about four weeks following surgery.
