Breast Reconstruction Surgery

Breast reconstruction surgery can be a physically and emotionally rewarding procedure for a woman who has lost a breast due to cancer. The two most common breast reconstruction surgeries are expander reconstruction and flap reconstruction. Expander reconstruction uses breast implants to create the breast mound while a flap reconstruction techniques utilize a woman's own muscle, fat and skin to create the breast mound. Breast reconstruction can be done at the time of mastectomy or later as a delayed procedure.

At Plastic Surgery Consultants, surgery is tailored to each individual patient based on type, size and location of the tumor, as well as the patient's body dimensions and desired outcome. Because of the need to examine the patient to determine the most appropriate procedure, specifics regarding the operation of choice are discussed at the time of the initial consultation.
