Neck Lift

A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve sagging jowls, loose neck skin and fat under the chin. Neck lift surgery is not a facelift and will not impact the contours of the face. Your surgeon can tell you which procedure is most appropriate for your needs.

Neck lift surgery is performed under a general anesthesia and takes about 2 hours. Incisions often begin in front of the ear and wrap around behind the ear ending in the lower scalp. A second incision under the chin may be necessary. Once healed, the scars from a neck lift are well concealed within the natural contours of the face and ear. The procedure removes excess fat below the chin, eliminates muscle bands of the neck and improves contour along the jawline and neck.

Following neck lift surgery a bandage, or dressing, similar to a neck brace is placed around your neck. The dressing is removed the following day in the surgeon's office. At this point, no further dressings are required. When surgery is complete, bruising and swelling will resolve over 3-4 weeks and neck contour will improve over 3 months. The scars may take a full year to blend and fade. You should plan on taking one to two weeks off from work to recover and avoid any strenuous lifting or exercise for about four weeks following surgery.
